Our First Wild Mushroom Hunt

The 9th annual Yachats mushroom festival was great fun. We went to the mushroom dinner on Friday (Oct. 17th) and attended several classes on the importance of mushroom ecosystems, mushroom identification, mushroom exploring, and recipe cooking. We ate mushroom burgers, soups, and enjoyed our first wild chanterelle pasta dinner with chicken. We had a great time collecting our first wild mushrooms and will continue to hunt for them over time. We started our hike into the forest on Sunday morning. It was clear and cold. We hiked to about 400 feet where the fog had settled in and there was moisture. It was here that we picked our chanterelle mushrooms and there were many to be found. It was a fantastic and educational experience for us.
